Setting up SendInBlue for outgoing emails

Last updated: 25 September 2023 at 16:43:21 UTC by Junari Assistant

In some cases, such as when you need to send large email volumes, or when your email provider cannot provide you with a "SMTP Relay", we may suggest that you set up a SendInBlue account, which can be used to relay emails from your Junari system.

Below are instructions for creating an account, and sharing the details with Junari, so we can connect it to your Junari system

1. Sign Up with SendInBlue

Go to the SendInBlue signup page and create a new account.

The system will ask you to verify your email address. Open the email they've sent you and click the Confirm my email address button,

Fill in the rest of the sign up details and click Next.

(the system includes a marketing platform, but we will just be using the "Transactional Email" feature, so the answers to the above questions are not too critical)

Complete the Phone Validation

2. Select Plan

When prompted, you can select the Free plan.

This includes

  • Up to 300 emails per day, so approximately 9,000 emails per month

If you intend to send messages to mailing lists of more than a few hundred people, then we'd recommend subscribing to the Starter package.

3. Send Junari the "Transactional Email" login details

Once your account is active, click the "Transactional" button on the menu.

This will show you the SMTP settings that we need to configure your Junari system with.

Please copy the details highlighted below, and send them to your contact at Junari

4. Monitoring your email usage

Once Junari has configured your system and you've started sending email through it, when you press the "Transactional" menu in SendInBlue, you will see the summary below.

This shows you the quantity of emails that have been sent through the system, as well as useful stats like any bounces, and what your remaining balance is.

5. Improving Email Deliverability

Domain Verification

While emails should get through in most cases with just the default settings, it is a good idea to Verify your domain with SendInBlue, to ensure your emails get through to all recipients.

There's full details on verifying domains and senders in the SendInBlue documentation: https://help.sendinblue.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000185270 and Junari can help you with this.

SPF Record

In addition, if your domain has an existing "SPF" (spam protection framework) record, it is a good idea to get it updated to include the SendInBlue email service. Theres an article about how do do this here

Normally your IT team will be able to do this for you. The SPF record statement that needs to be added is:  include:spf.sendinblue.com mx
