< Back to Article ListJAMS: Giving a few people access to one signed-in page (guest access groups)
Last updated: 30 October 2026 at 14:49:32 UTC by Asier Nebiyou
Use this when a small number of people (for example 2 to 4 non-members) should see the public website plus one signed-in page and its portal card, and nothing else. It also covers letting your regular members see the same page.
You need a JAMS login with access to Users & Settings and Website & Portal.
How it works
- You create an access group and put the people in it.
- The website page is set to only show to that group.
- The portal card that links to the page is set to only show to that group.
- Portal users who aren't in one of the groups you choose can't open the page and don't see the card.
Step 1: Create the access group (once per page)
- Go to Users & Settings > Settings > Groups.
- Click New.
- In the group name, type something clear, for example Guest Access - PLR Group.
- Tick Portal Group?. This is important: only groups with this box ticked can be chosen on a portal card in Step 4.
- Click the save icon (the cloud at the top).
Step 2: Add people to the group
- Stay on the group (or open it again from Users & Settings > Settings > Groups).
- Open the Users tab and click Add a line.
- In the window that opens, the search bar has an Internal Users filter switched on, so website/portal logins are hidden. Click the x on that filter to remove it.
- Search for each person by name or email, tick them, and click Select.
- Click the save icon.
You don't need to set anything on the person's own user record. Being in this group is enough.
If a person doesn't have a login yet, email support@junari.com with their name and email address and we'll create one for you.
Step 3: Restrict the website page
- Open the page on your website while logged in (for example /plr-directory).
- In the top menu, click Site > This page > Properties.
- Set Visibility to Restricted Group.
- In Groups, add your access group. Also add every other group that should still see the page (see "Letting members see it too" below).
- Click Save.
Your public pages are not affected. Only this page is limited.
Step 4: Restrict the portal card
- Go to Website & Portal > Portal > Portal Module Cards.
- Open the card that links to the page (its Action Button URL is the page address, for example /plr-directory).
- Open the Module Access Rights tab and add the same groups as in Step 3.
- Click the save icon.
If Module Access Rights is left empty, every portal user sees the card. If your guests should only see one card, check your other cards have groups set too.
As a portal administrator you can always open and edit every card, including ones restricted to groups you're not in. You don't need to add yourself to the access group.
Letting members see it too
A restricted page and card only show to the groups you list. So if your regular members should also see them, add their groups in Step 3 and Step 4 as well:
- A whole role (for example all Clerks): add that role's card group, such as Group: Clerk Module Cards or Group: Councillor Module Cards. You can see which groups each role gives under Address Book > Configuration > Portal Roles. Everyone with that role gets access automatically, including new people.
- Only some members: use a separate access group (for example Guest Access - PLR M Group) and add those members to it as in Step 2.
Portal Roles and access groups
- Guests don't need a Portal Role. The access group is enough.
- Access groups you add by hand are kept when someone's Portal Roles change or when a Portal Role is edited and saved. Only the access that comes from roles is updated.
Checking it works
- Ask one of your guests to log in, or use a test portal login that's in the group.
- They should see the public site, the one portal card, and be able to open the page.
- A portal login that isn't in any of the listed groups doesn't see the card and can't open the page.
